Today, Reston is celebrated as one of the D.C. area’s most exciting communities – a vibrant hub of technology, commerce, and culture.

However, Reston was a trailblazing locale even when it was created in 1965. As a “New Town” experiment, it was one of America’s first master-planned communities, a haven of equality open to all races, ages, and incomes. Pay tribute to this inspiring legacy and spend some time at the Reston Museum!

Operated by the Reston Historic Trust, the museum is a charming showcase in the Lake Anne Plaza. It offers walking tours, community exhibits, children’s workshops, and displays featuring photos, articles, manuscripts, maps, and architectural models. Local students even compiled an extensive series of oral histories from long-time residents – which have been transcribed, bound, and exhibited in the museum.

The Reston Museum also boasts colorful works for sale by local artists and artisans, including pottery, watercolors, photos, and prints. Be sure to check out this little local gem soon!
