Are you an aviation buff? Do you thrill to the roar of a jet engine, or are you fascinated by space travel? Then you’ll adore the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, an easy drive from The Avant at Reston Town Center!

Udvar-Hazy is the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s annex near Washington Dulles International Airport in Chantilly. The center boasts two huge hangars (the Boeing Aviation Hangar and the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar) displaying thousands of captivating aviation and space artifacts — including a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a Concorde, and the space shuttle Discovery. If you close your eyes, you can imagine these impressive technological wonders taking flight!

The center also showcases the Airbus IMAX® Theater, a popular spot to see big-screen blockbusters like “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Other features include the Donald D. Engen Observation Tower, which provides a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of the surrounding area; the Mary Baker Engen Restoration Hangar, where preservation of the National Air and Space Museum’s collections takes place; and a glassed-in mezzanine with an up-close view of restoration projects in progress.

The Udvar-Hazy Center offers daily tours and educational activities for both children and adults — as well as scheduled lectures and events throughout the year. For more information, click here.
